Engineering expertise / Data

Data engineering and analytics for enterprise teams.

UTIS builds and improves the systems that collect, organize and deliver business data. Our engineers work with SQL Server, SSIS, Azure Databricks and Snowflake across data integration, warehouse modernization and processing reliability. We map business rules and downstream dependencies, validate outputs and document how the pipelines will be supported.

Data engineering

From source data to trusted tables.

  1. Understand the sources

Map inputs and the teams using them.

  2. Process and validate

    Build pipelines and compare outputs.

  3. Put data to use

    Support reporting and applications.

Conceptual workflow. Scope, validation and delivery responsibilities are agreed for each engagement.

Your priorities

Problems we help solve

These are common reasons to bring UTIS into the work.

01

Reports arrive too late.

Slow data loads, duplicate records and undetected processing failures can leave teams making decisions from an incomplete view.

02

Data processing becomes expensive to maintain.

Repeated full-data loads, one-off scripts and inconsistent deployments add work as more datasets arrive.

03

A migration could disrupt reporting.

Reports and applications depend on existing data behavior. An upgrade or migration needs checks that those results still work.

Our contribution

What can UTIS improve in your data platform?

+

Build and improve data pipelines

Create and improve the processes that turn source data into usable datasets, using Databricks, PySpark and repeatable deployment.

+

Improve SQL Server and SSIS processing

Tune queries and data-loading jobs, process changed records and add checks for missing or failed work.

+

Validate migrations and upgrades

Compare old and new outputs, automate checks, plan the switch to the new system and retire legacy infrastructure when agreed.

+

Connect data to reporting

Develop reporting data models and analytics applications, including Power BI dashboards and a Snowflake Cortex Analyst application.

Examples of relevant results

Each result describes a specific engagement and retains its original source and scope.

~57%

Lower average daily compute cost

Eleven machine-log pipelines, first days after migration compared with a five-month baseline.

How we measured it: platform-reported daily compute cost, averaged over the baseline period and the initial post-migration window; the same datasets continued to reach users throughout.

2,000+

Data views validated

Automated comparison checked more than 2,000 data views—saved queries that present data to users and applications—before a platform upgrade went live.

Working together

How will we work with your team?

01

Map the sources and reports

Identify where the data starts, who uses it and where delays or failures occur. Agree the first problem to solve.

02

Agree what success means

Record the current results, processing time and relevant costs. Define what must stay the same and what should improve.

03

Build and check the changes

Implement the data-processing or platform changes and compare their outputs with the agreed reference.

04

Prepare the team to run it

Document deployment, monitoring and support responsibilities, including how future changes will be reviewed.

Before we start

Frequently asked questions

What to expect when you work with UTIS.

Can you improve our existing SQL Server and SSIS systems?

Yes. SQL Server, T-SQL and SSIS are part of our founding practice. We can start with a processing problem, a targeted improvement or a migration, depending on what your systems need.

How do you reduce migration risk?

Our work includes comparing old and new outputs, checking that data was not lost, planning the transition and retiring old systems after validation. We agree the checks and acceptance criteria for your project before the transition.

Can one engineer join our current data team?

Yes. We can embed an engineer screened by a UTIS architect in your team or scope a delivery project. The choice depends on whether you need ongoing expertise or a team responsible for a defined result.
