Paid internships & contract-to-hire

Intern-to-hire, with a structured start.

Start with a paid, role-specific internship. Build experience through supervised work, consider a UTIS-employed client assignment where appropriate, and explore direct client employment when the candidate and client are ready.

Each stage is a separate decision. Progression and direct employment are not guaranteed.

01 / The pathway

Progress with a reason to take the next step.

The work, employment arrangement and next decision are explicit at every stage.

Paid internship

Learn through defined work.

Agree a technical role, paid employment terms, learning objectives and a supervisor. Give the intern useful work with an appropriate level of support.

Review: skills, feedback and role readiness.

UTIS client assignment

Apply the learning in a role.

Where appropriate, progress to a client assignment as a UTIS employee. Define the responsibilities, supervision, working arrangements and contract-to-hire terms.

Review: assignment fit and sustained contribution.

Potential client employment

Consider the longer-term fit.

If the candidate and client choose to proceed, discuss a direct employment offer and the applicable transition terms and eligibility requirements.

Decision: a separate client hiring process.

02 / Program design

Give early-career talent a useful foundation.

A program works when the role, support and expectations are clear to the candidate, UTIS and the client.

A real role and learning plan

Define the technical work, skills to develop and what the person should be able to explain or deliver at each review point.

Paid work with clear terms

Clarify the employing entity, compensation, assignment duration and working arrangements before the start.

Supervision and useful feedback

Identify the supervisor and a practical feedback cadence. Match responsibility and access to the intern’s readiness.

An individual eligibility review

For students and other candidates, review relevant training conditions, school requirements and work authorization for the specific role and dates.

03 / How it works

Plan the work and the reviews together.

The program follows the actual role and employment arrangement. Student training and work-authorization requirements are reviewed individually.

  1. Agree the program

Define the role, paid terms, learning objectives, supervisor and the client’s longer-term workforce need.

What this establishesA practical plan for work and development.

  2. Review the candidate and start

Assess relevant foundations and potential, then confirm employment, training and work-authorization requirements individually.

What this establishesA role-specific readiness decision.

  3. Work, learn and review

Use supervised assignments and feedback to evaluate progress. Address support needs and confirm which responsibilities can grow.

What this establishesEvidence of skills and contribution.

  4. Choose the next stage

Discuss a UTIS client assignment or possible direct client employment where there is a suitable role and agreement on the transition.

What this establishesA clear decision, without an assumed offer.

Choose your starting point

A clear path for both sides.

The conversation starts with the role, the person and the responsibilities each party will own.

Before we begin

Questions worth answering early.

Understand the assessment, employment path and responsibilities before deciding on the next step.

Is the internship paid?

This offering is designed around paid, structured internships. The role, employing entity, compensation, duration and supervision are discussed before the person starts.

Does an internship guarantee a client job?

No. A move to a UTIS client assignment or direct client employment depends on a suitable role, demonstrated fit, candidate and client decisions, applicable terms and eligibility. Each stage is reviewed separately.

What does contract-to-hire mean here?

It describes a potential commercial path from a UTIS-employed client assignment to direct client employment. A consultant on that assignment is not described as an independent contractor merely because the client engagement uses a contract.

Can students participate?

Potentially. The actual role, school or training requirements, dates and work authorization must be reviewed individually before work begins. Participation is not automatic based on student status.

Who supervises the work?

The program identifies the supervisor and responsibilities before the start. The learning plan, feedback cadence, task ownership and any client-side oversight should match the actual work arrangement.

How do candidates express interest?

Start through the Careers page with your résumé, technical interests and availability. UTIS can then discuss whether there is a suitable role and what further information is needed.
